SPEECH OF THE MANAGEMENT REPRESENTATIVE during ISO 9001:2008 celebration of on 21/10/2016 at the Kisumu Polytechnic Ground
I wish to take this opportunity to first and foremost welcome all of you to this historic event. Today we are gathered here to celebrate the re-certification of the ISO 9001:2008 Quality Management System (QMS) and the launch of the Third Kisumu National Polytechnic Strategic Plan (2016 – 2020). Let me from the onset express my sincere gratitude to each and every one of you for having created time to be with us at this important event.
Please note that there is a strong symbiotic relationship between the implementation of both the Quality Management System and the Strategic Plan. Our Service Charter which forms the interface between the Quality Management System and the Strategic plan reflects our commitment to our external and internal clients and stakeholders. The Charter communicates our commitment to provide consistent and professional services to our customers in line with our core values.
Ladies and Gentlemen: QMS involves developing a management system to help organizations achieve their set corporate objectives. ISO 9001 series specifies requirements that enable organizations to demonstrate that they have the capability to consistently provide products and services that meet customer needs and the applicable statutory and regulatory requirements. By applying ISO 9001, organizations ensure that they meet their customer requirements and continually improve their processes for increased efficiency and effectiveness in service delivery.
The Kisumu National Polytechnic was ISO 9001:2008 recertified in August 15, 2016. This is a milestone that reflects our true disposition as a team set to go all out to reach any pinnacle we set our eyes on, and more outstandingly, surpass every expectation. The re-certification is a culmination of a comprehensive framework in line with the requirements of the standard which involved scheduled internal audits and surveillance audits, Management Reviews and customer feedback among others. As we delight in this moment, we must always remember that getting to the top is not always as tough as staying there. It is time to work hard and remain focused to course. I believe that being ISO certified means our customers and prospects can have confidence that The Kisumu National Polytechnic is indeed committed to delivering outstanding customer service.
Ladies and gentlemen: I am happy that the KNP staff remained steadfast in sustaining our Quality Management System for the past three years. The top management equally remained firmly unwavering to the system by providing the requisite resources.
The process towards re-certification has not been without its challenges which we have superseded. However, I believe that we shall still face more hurdles at the formative stages of our re-certification even as we lay the foundation of a transitional plan towards implementation of ISO 9001:2015.
Lastly, I wish to express my sincere appreciation to the Governing council and management of the Kisumu National Polytechnic for providing leadership, direction and resources, the Quality team for spending sleepless nights to ensure achievement, QMS auditors, ISO champions, Process owners, and the entire Kisumu National Polytechnic staff. Indeed all their efforts have culminated to the sustenance of the system which was re-certified without any major non-conformity at all.
