The Kisumu National Polytechnic was on October 21, 2016, recertified as ISO 9001-2008 compliant, three years after it first got the award. The ceremony that took place in the institution also coincided with the launch of the institution’s Third Strategic Plan (2016 – 2020).
The recertification is an endorsement of KNP’s Quality Management System that provides structures and systems for organizational processes. This means that KNP stakeholders are in an optimal environment for the formulation and implementation of short and long-term strategies.
Spearheading this process is the Quality Management Representative (QMR) who ensures that various departments establish, implement and maintain processes needed for Quality Management Systems to work. The QMR also reports to top management any need for improvement on the performance of the QMS.
ISO 9001-2008 also requires internal and surveillance audits, management reviews and customer feedback among other regulatory procedures. The result of this framework is simple, flowing and organized work processes organized in an integrated approach that ensures timely and quality service delivery with continual improvement.
Among the benefits accruing from having the ISO certification are increased efficiency, better employee morale, international recognition and improvement of work processes
In summary, KNP’s recertification means its quality management systems reduce wastage, improve process controls, lower costs and meet customers’ expectations
