A message from the Chief Principal

Welcome to The Kisumu National Polytechnic

The Kisumu National Polytechnic (TKNP) is a premier National polytechnic situated within the Lake city of Kisumu approximately 349 km from Nairobi. TKNP formerly Kisumu Polytechnic acquired it’s National Polytechnic status through the Kisumu National Polytechnic order,2014 as published in the Legal Notice No. 113 of 22nd August, 2014 and in conformity with the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Act, No. 29 0f 2013.lytechnic (TKNP)is a premier National polytechnic situated within the Lake city of Kisumu approximately 349 km from Nairobi. TKNP is managed by a Council appointed by the Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Education. The Chief Principal serves as the secretary to the Council and provides leadership on the day- to- day operations of the institution. TKNP is ISO 9001:2015 certified and is committed to providing affordable, accessible, sustainable and quality training by ensuring that our services meet the customer needs and expectations through effective and efficient service delivery.
TKNP strives to guard and retain its position as the ideal training Centre of excellence envisaged in our vision ‘A world class Polytechnic in the provision of technical, vocational, entrepreneurial training and research’ and Mission ‘To provide high quality technical, entrepreneurial training, research and innovation in partnership with stakeholders to produce globally competitive graduates’
TKNP has embraced the government initiative to provide a wholesome excellent educational experience and attract and retain trainees regardless of their background. Trainees are entitled to government capitation of thirty thousand shillings per year for tuition fees. The Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) provides funding of up to forty thousand shillings for the interested trainees who must apply and submit their application for consideration within the stipulated timelines. Other sources of funding include Constituency Development Fund and bursary allocation from well-wishers.
TKNP offers a wide scope of curricula at Higher Diploma, Diploma, Certificate and Artisan levels spread across eleven academic departments namely; Applied Sciences, Medical Health Sciences, Agriculture and Environmental studies, Building and Civil Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Institutional and Hospitality Management, Business Studies, Liberal studies, Clothing and Textiles and Information and Communication Technology.
TKNP is among sixteen beneficiaries of a World Bank project spread across three countries, Kenya, Ethiopia and Tanzania. TKNP is the Regional Flagship TVET Institute in Textile Technology under the East Africa Skills for Transformation and Regional Integration Project (EASTRIP). The main objective of EASTRIP is to increase access and improve the quality of TVET programs in selected Regional Flagship TVET Institutes and to support regional integration in East Africa. The project is supporting manufacturing by implementing a Regional Flagship TVET Institute in Textile Technology (RFTITT).
The Kisumu National Polytechnic is a member of the Commonwealth Association of Technical Universities and Polytechnics in Africa (CAPA), Kenya Association of Technical Training Institutions (KATTI) as well as Kenya Education Network (KENET) to which the Chief Principal is currently a Trustee representing TVET institutions.
