THE DEPARTMENT OF COMPUTING AND INFORMATICS
The department was formerly known as Maths/Computer. It was established back in 1996 as a service department to offer training services to other Engineering departments in the areas of ICT and Mathematics.
The department later mounted its own courses in 1998 and started offering Diploma in Applied statistics, Diploma in Computer studies and Short-term Computer application Courses. Later in 2001, the department introduced mainstream courses in ICT such as Diploma in ICT and Certificate in ICT.
The department has made several achievements in the Last ten years, Since the introduction of the mainstream Courses in ICT. The students’ enrolment has improved tremendously from a previous low number of 125 in 2007 to over 700 students in 2019.
The department is working in collaboration with stakeholders from the industry to ensure that all our Courses are aligned to the requirements of the Job market. We proudly recognize ICT to be one of the fastest growing and dynamic service industries in the Country, and therefore, there is need to keep up-to-date with the technology used in the industry to ensure that our graduates have a seamless transition from College to the Job market.

To this end, we have established a reliable online learning platform that facilitates open and distance learning options, for those who want to enhance their knowledge and skills without physical presence in classroom.
The department has made a number of achievements, in the last few years which can be highlighted as follows:
Faculty:
Increased the number of training staff to provide high quality instruction to our trainees/students, and equip them with the state-of-the-art knowledge & skills in computer science/ICT that they need to take up real-world challenges.
Community building:
Creates a strong sense of community and common purpose within and between our students, our faculty, and support staff.
Infrastructure:
Ensure that we have adequate computer labs spaces and necessary infrastructure, including hardware and software, to support the learning activities necessary to achieve our training goals.
Development:
Increased our outreach and connections to alumni and with businesses and industry both locally and across the country to aid curriculum review and development efforts.
Research and Outreach:
Established strong and positive visibility for our training and research activities both within and outside of Kisumu County. Established partnerships with local businesses and industry.

- Certificate in Web Design and Programming – TKNP CBET Course
