Agriculture and Environmental Science department is one of the youngest departments in the institution, previously a section in Applied Sciences department. It currently has a student population of 250 and a team of able trainers and technicians to ensure quality service delivery to our trainees. Our main strengths lie in our desire to produce graduates who are mindful of conserving their immediate environment, and to contribute to the national food security programs through equipping learners with relevant skills in practical sustainable agricultural production, through the various tailored courses offered by the department. And to achieve this, we have well trained staffs that have the zeal to work and make our department the best. The department has an orchard and a vegetable farm that is doing very well, an indication of successful training. We also have animals for studies. The learning resources available include rabbit unit and we are currently constructing a modern dairy unit to improve on the practical learning experience. We also have proposed poultry, piggery and goat units to be constructed in the near future. All these, among many other projects, will form a mega teaching demonstration unit for the department, making the department a haven of practical learning with the objective of producing practical oriented professionals in agricultural sector. The department is also focusing on imparting the skills of environmental conservation on its trainees by engaging the trainees in environmental management programmes within The Kisumu National Polytechnic and its environs. This will also promote good relationship with the local community, while preparing the learners to be mindful of the world outside college life. I therefore can confidently state that our graduates from the Department of Agriculture and Environmental Science are reliable and responsible citizens who can be entrusted with responsibilities within their areas of expertise and training, and commendable to the potential employers and organizations. I take this opportunity to welcome you all to this department in particular, and to The Kisumu National Polytechnic in general.COURSE | LEVEL | REQUIREMENTS | DURATION | EXAMINING BODY | MODE OF STUDY |
